Within 5 miles of my home I know of a couple who adopted 4 Korean boys and
then, a couple of years later 4 others - two have some health issues and
another is confined to a wheelchair. A nurse and her husband who went to
Guatamala and adopted a three year old girl even when it was obvious that
she had attachment issues. Expand that area out another five miles and
there is a contractor and his wife who adopted two Korean children - a boy
and a girl. A teller at the bank I go to went to China to adopt her
daughter. My nephew's in-laws adopted three children from Russia (many
shades darker than their own blond-haired, blue-eyed daughter) who have
"problems" because of a rough start in an institution. I believe that you
are correct in that most people want babies and avoid dealing with all the
emotional baggage older children drug through the system can carry with
them. But, I also believe that the legal system can become a barrier
between a child and a stable home.
