Re: Is the Pancreas restorable?

Thanks for the additional info. Since I do not have a bio-med
background, much of what you said is incomprehensible. However, I will
add that I added bitter melon/ginseng, glucose tolerance factor, a
multivitamin, little bit of C, baby aspirin to the regimen, which seems
to help, especially the bitter melon and GTF.

Jack LaLane is a hero to me. He is in his 80's and still looks good.
He always emphasizes to avoid processed food. And, of course, exercise.
It is amazing that by exercising you actually eat less due to less
cravings. The info on fasting was interesting, I might try it. Right
now, I'm kinda driving myself nuts, counting calories all the time. I
found that I was eating mostly high calorie food. Did you know how high
peanut butter is? WOW!

Without reading the research this is the conclusion I came to
independently as well, based in part, on life extension research and
calorie restriction. My symptoms have lessened considerably with the
following interventions: a) aerobic exercise increase (i am 61 yrs
old, so this is hard, but i force myself) b) calorie restriction and
filling my stomach with high fiber, low cal foods, reducing fat
consumption, reducing cholesterol intake, reducing high glycemic
foods); c:)losing weight-I was only about 10% overweight, but this
was enough to cause me symptoms. So far I have reduced my food
cravings, and am eating less and more satisfied; also my thirst. I
feel better, am in a better mood. The numbness in my feet has reduced
considerably and is almost gone. I will continue to lose weight until
I reach my ideal weight. The other thing I had to do is RESIST the
cravings and JUST NOT EAT. STOP! THAT's ALL, no more. It was hard,
but not as hard as kidney failure or other bad things that will
happen to me if i don't do it.

Wouw,
what can I say hermie,
as if I look in the mirror .... :)
I'm 62 years old, my strategy is
1) calorie restriction by including days of fasting
2) exercise by sitting on my racing bike
3) muscle building with weights
4) high fiber, green vegetables, beans, roots
5) low cal foods, low fat cheese, low fat chicken, low fat turkey
6) high fat nuts, high fat fish
7) no red meat, thus no artificial hormones from the farming industry

This more or less automatically caused a weight loss and a loss of
cravings and like you said less numbness in my feet and a better mood.

My two cents :
the weight loss and the loss of cravings is caused by the low(er) carb
thus lower insuline which is a metabolic hormone of course and also
regulates fat metabolism. The lower carb causes lower glucose spikes
and together with the lower insulin : lower hypothalamic
signalling. The higher fiber causes more short chain fatty acids in the
intestine, more signals to the l-cells, more signalling of GLP-1, down
regulation of hepatic glucogenesis during (after) a meal.Lower glucose
spikes after a meal.I can persuade the crew in the machine room to
move more easily than just tell them that they will not get any
food.So spending energy, exercise, helps. The fasting in combination
with exercise will train the mitochondrions in my muscle cells to burn
fat.I will get more of them and they will now (again) be able to do
substrate switching to burning of fat. This will diminish the fat
storage. This will reduce the adipocytes. This will reduce the
inflamation signals, the adipocyte signalling of cytokines.etc etc
etc.....
