Anyone have a suggestion on how to avoid the bruising? The areas are
large enough now that people are starting to ask what I did. It is
mildly embarrassing.
The bruising typically comes from the needle hitting small subcutaneous
blood vessels below the skin. If you're taking any blood thinners
(aspirin, ibuprofin, etc.) the blood vessels will leak for longer and the
blood will spread throughout the surrounding tissue, leaving a
bruise. Or you may have a natural clotting deficiency of some sort.
I would discuss it with your doctor and see what he thinks. I take
low-dose aspirin daily as a blood thinner, but when I also take ibuprofen
for aches and pains, the bruising is noticeably worse. My doctor
suggested simply not taking the daily aspirin when I was taking ibuprofen
and that has seemed to work.
My partner is a retired RN and typically does the injections for me,
since I have a noticeable needle squick. I can do the injections
myself, but I find it very difficult at times. She changed to very
short needles and that has also seemed to help. The needles just have to
be long enough to get the injection into the fat layer.

I am taking two 500mg Naproxen Sodium pills a day and one full
strength aspirin at bedtime.

See here for information on Naproxen Sodium; combining it with
aspirin is not recommended, so ask your doctor if you should be
using both of them. Also, Naproxen Sodium sometimes causes
bleeding.

day and after about 6 months one of the tests my doctor did regularly showed
some minor kidney damage. I had to go off the medication immediately and she
told me the kidney would not recover. It must have been found very early
because it did recover. From then on I just suffered.
