The next reply she made offered to delete my homepage so the problem
would be fixed. Her logic was simple. No homepage. No problem.
In her defense, maybe sge thought you were complaining about
another customer's website you found offensive.
Thanks Wes,
In some circumstances that would provide a good explanation.
It shouldn't have in this case. Here's why.
All homepage sites are named using the user name of the subscriber.
It could only be my site. Unless she had just joined the company she
would have been aware of this. She should also have known all site
names were lower case. In both cases she apparently didn't know
these elementary things.
I am however grateful for your explanation since her responses in the
first instance appeared to match that interpretation. They don't
match the follow ups though where she distinctly calls it my site.
I promptly replied asking in the plainest of terms that she leave our
webpage alone and asked if the case could be transferred to another
technician who was more familiar with diversions to spam sites.
Unfortunately, if NZ companies are similar to US companies, at many
of them, the first line of phone support are people who know little,
and think you know even less. They seem to be hired more for their
ability to act like they know something.
At times when they're not actually on the phone with me threatening--
my systems :-) I sort of sympathize with them. How often do I find
out that I didn't know something I thought I knew?
