Re: OT: Supernews Refugees

Once again Agent barfed on me and I had to start all over with my

Come to find out Supernews is now Giganews and don't I feel special.
Thanks, Giganews. I didn't know what I was missing. I feel so
privileged now.

Giganews bought Supernews???

Or is it just that your ISP changed provider?

Supernews had very strong filtering (I wonder what Jeremy Nixon will
do now? - he wrote Cleanfeed) to the extent they used to drop some
valid posters, Giganews is much more relaxed about spam filtering and
tends to leave it up to the end user, also they have gazillions of
extra (little or unused) groups over Supernews. On the other hand
they're very reliable, have two separate server farms, one in the US
and one in Holland, with identically numbered articles so you can
switch between them in case of mechanical or routing problems, and
have humungously long retention.

99% of this crap comes from Google Groups so off I go to try to figure
out how to configure Agent to filter it out (since Google -- mighty as
they are -- seems impotent in this respect. Just how long does it
take, in reality, to grow a pair?). I already knew it couldn't be
done, but I was hoping.

So I'm wondering what, if anything, other Supernews refugees are
doing. My "geek" days are in the distant past. I'm not interested in
installing NewsProxy or Hamster. Are you just making judicious use of
the DELETE key?

Basically I download headers only and Watch filter on the threads I
want (until Chung joins in)
.
