An even better test of risk is a few bg measurements, for crying out loud.

And just how many non-diabetics do you know that have meters to test their
BGs, or even know about such meters?

Good point. The purpose of Diabetes Alert Day is to reach out to
those who haven't a clue if they are at risk or not. By answering a
few simple questions they might be informed enough as to the possible
risk to get tested. Not everyone goes to their doctor for a "checkup"
and only see them when there is a specific problem. This might prompt
them to be a bit more proactive in getting tested.
Fortunately, the ADA has been spending a lot of time and money on
diabetes awareness. More and more people are aware of the disease
than ever before and becoming aware that it is an epidemic. Knowledge
is power.
