True Quentin, but I wish we didn't have to. I hate all the clock changing. I
hope you're doing well today. Here, is sunshine for a change. It's been
unusually drab and dreary here in "sunny" CA in my area. Take care.
All those in favor of not having 'time change' in the US anymore, raise your
hand! [raising my hand]
Honestly, it throws me off for at least 2 weeks just trying to readjust to
what time it's supposed to be.
You know, I think your attitude to DST depends to a certain extent upon
where you live. The closer you live to the equator you will not notice much
benefit in the time change. Of course if you don't see any benefit you don't
want it. People in the far north don't like it either because the daylight
lasts for so long anyway. I live near the 49th parallel at the western part
of the Pacific Time Zone. Around the solstice without DST the sun would come
up at about 3 o'clock in the morning and go down 8:30 in the evening. Who
wants the sun coming through the windows that early in the morning? With DST
you can have a nice long evening. Of course you can add twilight (about 1/2
hour here) to that.
Of course in the winter the sun would be rising about 8:30 in the morning
and getting dark about 5:30 at night. The evening would be OK but who wants
to go to work in the dark. Parents with young children don't like the longer
evening though because the kids don't want to go to bed.
So some of us get benefit from it. I agree it tough going from DST to
standard time, but some of us do get a benefit from it.
There are a bunch of idiots in Saskatchewan who want to start
switching times. Currently, we do not switch times. It wouldn't be so
bad, but they want to go forward an hour in the summer, from where we
are now. What they don't realize is that it would put us 2 hours ahead
of the "natural" time. In effect, we are no permanent DST now, and in
the summer, it doesn't get dark until about 10 PM (it doesn't get dark
enough for astronomy until about 2 AM). In winter, it gets light at
about 08:30, and dark about 5 PM, which I think is about perfect.
