Within that overall picture are the concerning figures for LDL. With falling
total chols and static LDL, LDL must have risen as a proportion of the total
in the low carb high fat group. Interestingly this reflects the experience
of a prominent low carber on these ngs, Nicky, who reported a couple of
years ago that her LDL was "shooting up" on her low carb diet.

Uh, Peter - these were my results from 2005, which I assume is what
you're referring to:

Feb:
And as I got last week's partial cholesterol test results today, I had a
dollop of creme frais on it too. They only did HDL and total cholesterol,
but when I went looking for what a HDL/total ratio of 3.15 meant on a heart
health site, I was pleased to note that the scale of the at-risk graphs
started at 5 : )

July:
Total chol..3.81 mmol/l.........147
Trig........0.78..... [.3-1.7]...69
HDL.........1.29......[1.3-2]....50
LDL.........2.16.................83
Trigs/HDL....0.6...............1.38

Note the HDL/total ratio of 2.95...

The July 2006 results looked like this:
Bloods were generally fine - nothing abnormal in the batch at all, except BP
of 92/58 - I think that's a new record for me : ) Total cholesterol is down
a little since last time, but as they only measured total, not a very
interesting figure.

Kidneys are good too. There's a new test out, I forget the name - glomular
clearance??, where normal is in the 1-2 range, and diabetics are "always"
3-4 according to the DSN; mine was 1.2.

Please don't use my results as an advert for high carb! I can't find
any more cholesterol blood tests, it's not a standard test for my age
group in the UK, but I really don't think my diet is putting me in any
risk bracket whatsoever.
