The problem is one of marketing. Scientifically speaking what you need
is very powerful full spectrum light. There is a very simple cheap way
of providing that: a big tungsten-halogen lamp, such as a 500W. But
you can buy those in any hardware store very cheaply. There's no way
you could patent that and make money seliing ti SAD sufferers.

Okay, but if someone were handy, how & what would they create for
themselves? I guess I mean, does this then mean that NO ONE has put up a
list of instructions & diagrams on the Internet?!!!

No instructions or DIY gadgetry required. All you have to do is sit
under it reading a book or whatever just as you owuls with any
standard lamp.

Anyway, it's not of use to me personally, but it is frustrating. I can't
imagine running a 500W halogen, though. Wouldn't the glare be awful?

So is the glare from the sun. That's why you don't look at it. In fact
it's unwise to look at the sun. You don't need to look at the sun to
get the benefits of sunlight. Nor do you need to look at the lamp.

The only reason you have to look at some of the specially marketed SAD
lights is that they're so weak that they don't work unless you look
directly at them.
