| I haven't seen any bullying and I'd hardly call it an ideology. Also,
| there is no test-at-one-hour meme so much as a "find when your peak is"
| and that peak changes based on what you eat. It's quite sensible. Some
| foods spike fast, some spike slow. You admit as much in your posts about
| this. People advocate that people test often in the early days to learn
| when their spikes are.
Polly wanna cracker?
|
| In other words, you are setting up a strawman. The "ideology" is not
| "test at 1 hour" Rather, the advice is, "Test to find your peaks."
| Orange Juice: peak time is about 30 minutes. By 1 hour my BG is back
| down again. Rice: 1 hour. Pizza, 2-3 hours. Pasta 5 hours. YMMV. And
| that is by far the most important part of all of this: it's different
| for everyone. My peaks are not your peaks are not his peaks are not her
| peaks.
best go back to the books because you're wrong on those food "spike"
times.
OJ is used to cover a hypo, which it usually kicks in, in about 15mins.
this is
the reason it's used same with reg soda and whole milk. depends upon t he
type of rice. white rice hits faster then whole wheat rice. you certainly
have
pasta and pizza confused. pasta hits around the 90min mark to 2.5hrs
depending
on the person and pizza almost ALWAYS hits after 3hrs usually 4-5 and
often
protein will hit around the 5-6hr mark.

| Moving up out of this specific thread to the ng as a whole, I can't
| quite figure out is exactly where the fight is in all of this. I think
| we all can agree that T2 Diabetes should be treated by a combination of
| diet and exercise and, if necessary (often) by medication. So, we
| disagree on what the best diet is and how much emphasis to place on
| exercise.
|
| I've asked this before and have not gotten an answer: What, really, is
| the problem with the test, test, test advice? You learn what foods spike
| you and when, you learn what you can and cannot eat. You learn how
| exercise helps you (I can drop up to 60 mg/dl just by powerwalking for
| 30 minutes) and more. How is learning any of that bad? How is the advice
| harmful? (And, again, don't bring out the old saw that it does not
| encourage healthy eating... it says NOTHING about what you should eat,
| only what you CAN eat. It's still up to the individual to craft the
| healthiest diet based on what they can eat).
because not everyone understands what are the best times for testing and
they think they know, see a good reading and it's totally incorrect. just
as
some think they've learned when they spike, when it actually isn't the
case.
if one has little carbs in a meal then they aren't going to have a spike
period.
a spike is any glucose reading that is over 50mg then ones premeal
glucose.
spikes (highs and lows) are worse for you and cause more damage then to
have a substained high of 200mg.
there are also many factors that come into play when trying to work off a
"spike" from eating. it's best if everyone went for a 30min brisk stroll
approx
60mins after they ate anyhow.
as for the fighting, there are some in here (semi-newbies) who after only
a
short period of time think they are diabetic masters when they have no
clue.
reason I say no clue is because if they had to deal with what 75% of the
real
world diabetics dealt with they'd be at a total loss.
/slight rant off.
