Randy I suggest you become your own test subject. My personal experience of weight loss with equal calorie input shows a very dramatic difference between higher protein/lower carb than higher carb/lower protein & fat. I know you don't care for anecdotal results but there are a lot of people out there who have experienced the same as myself. As someone said, we live in the real world not in a metabolic ward. If you want to choose to believe "studies" over reality then that is totally your prerogative, just don't expect others to agree with your argument.
My experience during a period that I weighed and recorded all of my food intake down to the last crumb for at least a year is that I maintained my weight on 800 calories low fat/high carb, and on 1200 calories per day of low carb, high fat. Just like all the studies demonstrate.
I also found by using the food scale that I'd been under, not overestimating my intake.
But Jan, talking about real world vs. metabolic ward misses the whole point. Weight loss alone isn't a satisfactory measure of the impact of calories, when muscle mass and fat mass weigh about 20% differently. You'd expect the higher protein group to weigh more, but be thinner, which is what happens to quite a few newbie low carbers if they'd been eating much lower protein before.
