I know it's not a big deal to everyone, but I tested just a little
while
ago, and FINALLY hit double digits(96!!!!) for the first time in
years
literally. Yeah, it's not a gig deal in the grand scheme of things,
but it's
just nice to see all the hard work pay off sometimes.

Congratulations DS, it feels good doesn't it.

It does indeed, and even more so in light of something that happened last
night. A dear friend of my fiancé and mine on IRC passed away suddenly from
complications that arose from emergency surgery for a dissected aorta. The
same thing that killed John Ritter. He had survived one surgery, and was
recovering well. Unfortunately he had another dissection yesterday morning,
coded, and suffered brain death before the second one could be repaired. He
was only 32.

What made this all the worse, was the fact that he and I basically mirrored
the actions of our personal lives recently. Divorce, pulled up stakes and
moved to be with the one we loved, getting married soon to these wonderful
ladies, and was even younger than both of them. It was uncanny. What
happiness I had from achieving the lower numbers I have been achieving
lately, is tempered by my profound grief.

I am torn right now with conflicting emotions. Lynn, my fiancé cried
terribly last night, because she is terrified that what happened to our
friend, will happen to me. She too saw the parallels between Billy and I,
and it scared her to death. I reminded her that SHE was the reason I have
become so obsessed with turning my life around and getting healthy, and that
I have no plans of leaving anytime soon. Sometimes obsession can be a GOOD
thing.

I was wrong when I said these numbers were not important in the grand scheme
of things, especially with these turn of events. It shows the importance of
getting and staying healthy because of the tenuous hold we have on this
life. I could have very well let things stay the way they were, and more
than likely not made through the next year. So for those that get
disconsolate, and think that the burden we carry is too onerous, just
remember Billy and the one he left behind.
