Sorry Frank, I firmly believe that his advice to type 2
newbies is harmful. Thus I will not be "nice" about this.
Killfile me if you have a problem with that. There are three
posters here I will cut no slack for when it comes to advice
for new type 2's. Kurt is one, you can probably work out the
other two.

I came here in July or August (I forget exactly when now) as a new DX T2
and looked for whatever advice I could find. I had no preconceived
notions. Well, I had a few. I had a so-so experience with Atkins 10 or
so years ago and through the advice of friends and others, came to
believe that low-carbing was a very bad idea. So, I was predisposed
against that pathway.

Since I arrived here, I have found the postings to follow this pattern:

Alan (and others) offer advice or links to current studies of note. He
is friendly, helpful, and goes out of his way to assist people. He's
also a good supporter in that if someone says that their A1C is 13 and
they've been testing the FBG every day and don't understand it, he takes
them to task for not testing 1 and 2 hour PPs. He does this wanting to
help people.

Kurt and Tom (and a handful of others) post to each other as if no one
else is present and talk about the others as if they aren't there. They
make snide comments, immature jokes (ref: the clown picture) and
generally act like the brats at the back of the classroom. In my son's
school, they'd call that kind of behavior bullying behavior. What's
funny to me is that as they make these comments and jokes, they also
whine about how people insult them or shut them out of conversations or
refuse to let them speak their minds as if they are some kind of
downtrodden, put upon pour souls who only want to help.

There are others who fall somewhere on the spectrum between these camps
but this is how I see it. I knew none of you before I got here and had
no opinions (and would likely have sided more with the anti-low-carbers
if all things had been equal). But as you can see, I have strong
opinions now. Let me be blunt:

Kurt & Tom: you are not the poor victims of Alan's evil plots as you
like to make yourselves out to be. You are not the silenced wise sages
of this newsgroup. You are opinionated, as are many of us, but you are
also snide, rude, childish, self-important, and have destroyed any
credibility you might have had. Your desire to help people is completely
undermined by your devotion to scoring points against your hated enemy
or making yourselves look like the victims here. Get over it. If you
have something of substance to say, say it. But stop pretending you have
some moral high-ground here. You lost it long ago. I have seen precious
little from you three which makes me think you have anything of value to
add to the discussion. From where I sit, Alan offers value, helps the
newbies, gives good advice and is willing to learn. I have seen him
accept information which contradicts what he knows and learn from it. I
have yet to see any of you do anything remotely like that.

I promised myself I wouldn't get involved in this but I'm getting so
tired of this and I think that your behavior is damaging to this
newsgroup and to the newbies who come here for help. How many people
have been turned off and left because of you? How many have been
convinced away from the test, test, test advice (which, as Alan pointed
out, is only PART of the whole plan, the rest of which is to eat
NUTRITIOUS food, not the bacon and butter you joke about) because of
your behavior? Stop thinking about yourselves and your pride. This
newsgroup is here to support diabetics, T1 and T2. No one but you care
about your feud with Alan.

I get that there are differences of opinion. You believe the ADA is the
path to follow. Others don't. Guess what: there is NO ONE PATH for
diabetes! Some things work better for others and some things don't.
Let's use this space to discuss the merits of each but without the snide
comments and immature behavior. I think we'll all be better served by it.

Well, Andy, I must have fallen from grace very quickly since just less
than a month ago you wrote this...

You're welcome to your opinion, but it is just that. Stick around a
while and you will see some other "patterns" emerge. Or maybe you
won't.
