Hi DonnaB-The way I found this wonderful group of people is that a friend
just showed me how to subscribe to newsgroups, I didn't even know such a
thing existed, it downloaded over 20,000. I just started scrolling down
and saw this one late Friday night. I had been depressed because over the
last year had gained 30 lbs., check my bg Sat. morn. and was 261.
Lethargic, bad mood, couldn't get through eating a meal without falling
asleep (while still holding my plate), I was desperate for help.I have
been dealing with this for 4 years without any support or anyone to call
when I started to eat something I shouldn't. I have never been a part of
anything like this until Friday nite, I decided to write to the group, a
plea for help I guess, and had so many replies back immediately, Sat.
morning when I started reading them all, I started to cry. These people
that I don't even know, from all over the world, started encouraging me,
sending me links, ideas, recipes. I couldn't believe it!!! I haven't
even got this from my own family.

I am starting over with everything today. I just sent a post to the group
telling of somethings I overcame yesterday and how I'm going to start
changing things. Thank you for the reply. Have a great day!

I want to say THANK YOU to everyone that responded to my first post
yesterday. I never dreamed I would have this many replies. It made me
cry,
but like a burden had lifted. I know this sounds crazy but it was like
I
could see the whole group of you behind me saying "Go Donna Go". Like
Krom
said, accepting it is the first step. I guess I had never done that. I
have been diagnosed almost 4 years. 2 years ago I started developing
arthritis and sometimes in the mornings, my hip and fingers are so
swelled I
can't hardly move. Started out from the hospital on insulin. Made up
my
mind I could get it down and started taking metformin, then slowly back
up
again. This time last year, I thought dr. was going to put me back on
the
needle, (that's my fear) so in a couple of months I lost 25 lbs. and
dropped
3 pants sizes, my shirts were falling off my shoulder, you could see my
collar bone, had to go and buy all new clothes. Now, I'm back up to 150
lbs
(I am 5'1 and 47 yrs.old) so I look like the pillsbury dough boy!

Starting today, I am going to look at all the sites you all have sent me
and
also try to come up with some meal plans. I have been drinking tea with
splenda, and baking with it also, diet mt. dews when away from home.
Was
eating the Murray cookies (choc. covered grams) that you can get at
Walmart.
My weakness, chocolate. I love it. Also, being raised in northeast AL,
it's hard to get away from cornbread, fried potatoes and beans. White
rice
is my enemy, a small helping will shoot my sugar to 300.

Emotionally, I feel better, it's like I was drowning and you all threw
out a
life saver and pulled me back in. Now for me to work on the physical
stuff.
Sorry I've written 2 long posts, will make it shorter from now on. Just
getting some things off my chest.

Again, I can't say Thank you enough! Good day to all.

Hi, Donna T from Alabama! I'm another Donna here & I have also lived most
of
my life in the South & Southeast. There are several of us here who grew
up
eating Southern US. <G>

Was there something specific that happened that caused you to come
looking
for this newsgroup now, when you were diagnosed about 4 years ago?
