Tsk..lol.
When i had cable internet and it would go down i would call and they would
give the fluffy it you not us response and they would ALWAYS say well we can
send a tech to your house for a fee.
With that company when they have a call once they are done they flash the
line to check before they have to actually fix it...this almost always fixes
the problem..
So when it would go down id call refuse the tech and hang up and withing a
min or two id be back up and running..lol.
My fav non response is "is your computer on?"

Just thought you my enjoy this
Late Wedensday afternoon I stopped getting feed updates.
For those not in Australia I connect through Bigpond which is the major
ISP
here most
smaller ISP's use them some way or other to provide service and they
provide
just about
all the land line connections to homes and business here so NOT a small
concern.
After waiting for about I day I send Bigpond Technical support a message
"Thursday, 11 October 2007 3:43 PM
How much longer are the newsgroups feeds going to be down it's been 24
hours
since they
updated I have accessed through other servers and they are all working
only
Bigpond is not
updating"
Now I used to man a support desk for a small ISP so I have a little
knowledge of how
things work, before contacting them I had already
Checked with someone else to make sure you all had not expired in some
mass
worldwide
disaster.
Found and set up a free Newsgroup server to make sure all my software was
working, it was.
Posted a message via Bigpond and found it was posted on the other server
so
I knew it was
working outbound but not getting any feeds.
This I did BEFORE contacting Bigpond and waiting 24 hours expecting that
they would have
been aware and working to fix the problem.
I got the following reply
"Dear Valued Customer,

All this was completelly useless as I had already DONE this BEFORE
contacting them !!!!
It is known in the trade as the NMP response (Not MY Problem)
I replied to them
Look I'm NOT an idiot, my message was about your newsgroups NOT email I
have
been using these for years using about 20 groups now listen YOU ARE NOT
GETTING ANY FEEDS
I have no problem accessing them on another server, you stopped updating
about 4 yesterday afternoon I have 2 programs that I use and both are not
getting any new feeds.
Addition Today
Your servers are working intermittenly some times they just error out
sometimes you can't
connect.
Then you get a partial feed, nothing to the volume that I am getting from
the other
servers
HOW ABOUT NOT BLAMING ME AND INVESTIGATE AND FIX THE PROBLEM.
Later that day a reply

The feeds have slowly returned and are now just about up to date.
One thing I have found out is that there are gaps in the feeds which
explains why there
was some gaps in some threads in the previous week that I thought were
strange. This
problem was occuring for some time before it failed totally. Sometimes you
have to shout :-)
