I don't know what is regarded as "normal," but I try to keep my moring
fasting numbers to less tht 100 although my Endo only suggests less that
110. I ink it would be a good idea to keep testing periodically(not
everyday) just to keep an eye on things. You are well below the
diagnostic lever for either pre-diabees or full blown diabees.
congratulations on the new baby.
Wendy
Wendy, I could kiss you for this! :-D I'm thrilled! I have a
physical scheduled for next month and will continue monitoring for the
rest of the month, and also try to get the one and two hour post
prandials, so she can review this.
While I broadly agree with Wendy, your numbers for
Tuesday(100) and Saturday(99) are just on or below the
threshold of 100 for re-diabetes. I've copied the diagnostic
criteria at the foot of this post for reference. Considering
that allowable meter tolerances vary from +/- 3-15%, you may
be well under that threshold - or over it.
I know you may not be quite so thrilled at that news, but
that may actually be good news because you are getting a
very early indicator of future problems. Problems that may
not occur if you make some lifestyle changes now.
It's good to see that you are prepared to be pro-active and
test to see your position. This advice will help you
structure and learn from those tests:http://www.alt-support-diabetes.org/NewlyDiagnosed.htm
And this is something I wrote a while ago for people in your
position, if it turns out that your meter is reading truly:http://loraldiabetes.blogspot.com/2006/10/d-day.html
The ADA pre-diabetes diagnostic criteria are:http://care.diabetesjournals.org/cgi/content/full/29/suppl_1/s43#T2
<snip>
"Impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and impaired fasting
glucose (IFG)
The Expert Committee (1,2) recognized an intermediate group
of subjects whose glucose levels, although not meeting
criteria for diabetes, are nevertheless too high to be
considered normal. This group is defined as having fasting
plasma glucose (FPG) levels >=100 mg/dl (5.6 mmol/l) but
<126 mg/dl (7.0 mmol/l) or 2-h values in the oral glucose
tolerance test (OGTT) of >=140 mg/dl (7.8 mmol/l) but <200
mg/dl (11.1 mmol/l). Thus, the categories of FPG values are
as follows:
* FPG <100 mg/dl (5.6 mmol/l) = normal fasting glucose;
* FPG 100-125 mg/dl (5.6-6.9 mmol/l) = IFG (impaired fasting
glucose);
* FPG ?126 mg/dl (7.0 mmol/l) = provisional diagnosis of
diabetes (the diagnosis must be confirmed, as described
below)."

Thanks Alan, I'm familiar with your site from lurking here at asd.
It's really helpful to someone who's new to this...
I did worry about those borderline numbers, to be honest with you...
I'll see what I get for the rest of the month, and also with the post
prandials, and perhaps the doc will have me do a GTT at my checkup
next month.
