I saw a new Dr. yesterday. Same clinic, just a new Dr. Was not for aNot being able to walk very fast or very far because of my old ankle injury,
diabetes related issue, but a female one. She told me it was very
important that I exercise every day. I was to push myself to do it. What
a nice thing to say, but honestly not realistic given all of my medical
problems. There are times when I don't feel it is safe for me to do it.
Like when my BP has dropped low or I'm having trouble pulling myself out of
a hypo. Not that these things happen very often, mind you.
Most of the time I simply do not feel up to it. I used to be able to
exercise pretty much every day, but lately it has been super tough for me.
I have now tried every GERD med that there is. All seem to cause me
stomach upset, often to the point of throwing up, and all cause migraines.
Sometimes the headaches were so bad, all I could do was take to my bed for
6 days or so, getting up only to do what is necessary for my daughter and
the cat.
And now this female problem has left me exhausted. Most likely it is age
related, but we have to wait for the blood tests to see. It is possible
that I've gotten anemic from it though. She did a bunch of bloodwork and
we are awaiting the results.
Anyway... She implied that if only I would push myself to exercise every
day, I could maybe get myself off of all the pills I am on. I find this
hard to believe. And another problem I've had is that of late, exercise
seems to push my BG up over 200! It doesn't go back down, either. It
goes up and stays up. I mentioned this to my Endo. and he told me just
not to exercise. What to do? What to do? The other day, I was cleaning
the kitchen and laundry rooms in a hurry to get ready for the electrician
to come. I finally have lights. Yay! However, that amount of activity
caused my BG to drop to 38 and it wasn't pleasant. Using my weights has
the opposite effect and drives my BG up.
In the old days, I could count a trip to the grocery or drugstore as
exercise. If I used a shopping cart to aid with balance, I could walk up
and down every aisle (sometimes 2 or 3 times in a small store) and my BG
would be lower. Sometimes low enough to go hypo. But now that doesn't
seem to happen. At least the walking like that doesn't send me higher,
but it doesn't seem to help either. Also in the old days if my BG did go
too high, I could use my weights or do some sort of calisthenics for 10
minutes and my BG would drop. Now it just goes up. Like my weight. It's
back up again and it's getting super frustrating.
How many of you here exercise every day without fail? I used to be able
to, but now it seems impossible.
I ride my bicycle to work almost every day. Ofter I feel absolutely crappy -
due to headache, stomach problem (now) or general depression, but I throw
myself on the bike (which I will ten minutes from now) and ride to work.
Then I know I have to ride back - that's about 15 miles in one day. Keeps me
going, although I wonder how long I can keep it up. And, as I mentioned in
numerous posts, doing the bike ride at certain times, like on an empty
stomach or too soon after eating, causes my bg to sky rocket - liver dump.
