I was changed from propranolol to lisinopril & I did have that longbattle
last spring & into summer with allergies, then what seemed like a badcold &
the flu with cough, then what was definitely a hard to get rid ofsinus
infection, etc. Now I am & have been fighting another, totallydifferent
infection, that is no less insidious, ... but there's no coughinvolved.
And, there have been whole months at a time [LOL] since I was changedover
to it where I wasn't sick & had no cough. So far, so good.
I hope that continues with the no cough Donna. May I ask what other
kind of infection? Is it the same one you've been down with recently,
or is this new? Not meaning to be personal, was just wondering, since
I know you've been plagued with headaches and other things as well.
About a month ago & was suddenly besieged with horrific pain in my lower
right jaw. I endured it for a few days. I have a high threshold for pain. I
thought perhaps my teeth & gums were overly sensitive. I had been rather
vigorously eating almonds on Sunday night, munching away, then the pain
began Monday, so I thought I had just bruised something tender, ya know? I
have 3 crowns in a row in the back, lower, right & once before they had just
become very sensitive & the dentist had specifically named almonds as a hard
enough nut to cause something like it. Went on Mon-Tu-Wed-Th-Fri. I could
stand it - but I couldn't get to sleep much & when I did, I woke up after
only 2 hours.
So, I found a Saturday dental clinic, walk in, waited ages in a waiting room
full of noisy people wearing cologne I was allergic, too. Oy vey y'all, my
head hurt so bad by the time I got in the back to wait ... Got an X-Ray, the
dental assistant thought there might be sign of a pocket of infection under
one of the crowns, the dentist said there was nothing there & that they
didn't deal with crowns. Total waste of time. Total! So, I took a referral
name, address, number with me, my X-Ray (I insisted) and scrips for 800 mg
Motrin at regular intervals.
We were driving home & couldn't make a turn, because the street's at an odd
angle & all of a sudden I saw a sign for a dentist that said they were open
on Saturdays & took walk-ins. We parked & went in. (Seemed like a sign
maybe. LOL) They were just about to leave & trying to finish up but when we
explained he agreed to see me. He looked at the X-Ray & saw no pocket of
infection. However, he was sure from examining my gums around the crowns
(sorta like a bridge, sorta not) that there was what he called a
micro-infection well underway. He explained that the bacteria (or whatever,
I'm paraphrasing, probably poorly) could have lived there happily getting
along with everything for years & years, until something happened - stress,
change, some challenge to my immune system would cause it to burst,
literally, into this thing growing in my mouth! (Argh) I talked about T2
diagnosis, about stress, about being sick so much between February & June &
having trouble coming back from it fully, and he said any or all of that
could have been what fired this thing up. BLAH.
He sent me home with scrips for amoxicillin, which I hate, 800 mg Motrin,
and a chlorhexa-something something oral rinse. Also with some samples of a
new kind of reusable thread flosser & very specific instructions on
brushing, flossing under crowns that are hard ones to do, rinsing my mouth
with the oral rinse, and with using a dilute bleach solution with my Water
Pik.
My partner decided that being sleep deprived was not helping any. So, we
have been on a quest to get me sleep, wake me up every 6 hours to take new
pills, take regular morning & night pills, eat well, ... while aggressively
going after the gum infection with all of these topical methods. (Although
this is a conservative way to treat this. I know that some dentists would
pull out the crowns, do at least one more root canal - one is already done,
do all new crowns differently, etc. and, I do not want to do it that way.
I'm not even convinced it necessarily works. And, if the crowns have to be
replaced, at least we will have tried this way first.)
I went to the dentist & he is very excited because it is so much better in
such a short amount of time. (I think it's taking forever. <G>) He says many
people take months instead of weeks to make this much progress. Keep it all
up. When the amoxicillin & Motrin800 run out, which is soon, to go without
them & see what happens. If anything comes up, call & come in. If not,
recheck in 6 weeks.
Oh, yeah, I tried to do the bleach solution & I can't. It is one of the
things that I am allergic (chemically sensitive) to from smell. I thought it
would be so diluted I could do it but it makes me sick. So, he changed me to
using the oral rinse solution for the Water Pik, too.
So, meanwhile, on our own we're looking at power toothbrushes. I used to use
one but when my last one died I just never replaced it. They are expensive.
And, I'm giving these Promise Activ Supershots a try & drinking one of them
every day.
I just hate it, though. I don't like sleep. I'd rather be up doing things.
Antibiotics hate my body & make it sick, gastrically. I hate feeling like my
head is in a barrel & I am out of it, dopey, unable to communicate or think.
Both antibiotics & sleeping a lot do that to me.
Plus, I had been thinking that I was doing really well with this diabetes
thing. Working hard, frustrated at times, yes, but not having any real
serious things come up that I couldn't deal with - neuropathy under control,
if still present, with pills, supplements & work on BG control, etc. I
thought I was healing well. Then I thought back to how sick I had been this
year & for how long cumulatively & it really just jerked the rug out from
under me. So, I'm still trying to get over this current/recent infection &
not feeling so great about the struggle.
Although I know intellectually that the dentist thinks I am healing quickly,
....
Now, aren't you sorry you asked?!!! LOL
Oh, and you can be personal here anytime. <G>
