Okay, I was with you til you dissed Zyrtec, my lifeline, with none of
the dry mouth and dopiness I get from Benadryl. It's the most effective
antihistamine for all my allergies, with no adverse reactions that I'm
aware of after taking it for at least a decade or so.
I *knew* as soon as I used an actual example, I'd step on someone's toes!
Kewl if it works for you, but... I don't do antihistamines on a regular
basis and have never had a problem with Benadryl.
I had poison ivy a few years back and was prescribed Zyrtec which costs
a freaking FORTUNE whereas Benadryl costs almost nothing.
I was told the great benefit of Zyrtec was that it wouldn't make me
drowsy, but it makes SOME people drowsy, so I should take it before bed
just in case. WTF?!?
As far as I can tell, the only reason I was prescribed Zyrtec is cause
it's "new" and therefore "better" and Benadryl is "old" and therefore
not as "sexy".
Wow. When I had poison ivy, by the time I went to the doctor, I needed
steroids (one of those dose packs). But my GP told me that what I
*should* have done was take oral Benadryl (I'd used topical stuff, to no
avail).
