Re: What do low carbers think about oatmeal?

I haven't seen much mention of oatmeal specifically (since I've been
here), and I've always eaten it fairly often for breakfast. I'm
talking about the Quaker Oats brand, either Quick 1 minute and/or Old
Fashioned with "Oatmeal Helps Remove Cholesterol" in BIG letter on the
box front. Also claims to be from 100% whole grain "rolled" oats (I
have no clue what the "rolled" part means) The Nutrition Panel looks
pretty good to me with no saturated or trans fat, a little poly and
mono unsaturated fat, no cholesterol, no sodium, 4 grams of dietary
fiber (2g soluble), 5 grams protein, < a gram of sugar, but 27 grams
of Carbs.
Anyhow, I've just been wondering if there is a consensus among low
carbers about it, thumbs up or thumbs down.

I started my diabetic life with oatmeal every morning (protein powder
added) for 3 months. My A1c was 5.5 (down from 7.2). Then I started
testing within 30 to 45 mins after eating it. Spikes up to 175.
Stopped eating it. Miss it. But hey, it's all about trying to avoid
nasty spikes (and complications). After 3 months without oatmeal my
last A1c was 5.5 (again). Go figure.
