Hello friends,

Our discussions of this afternoon have started me thinking about the
ethics of consuming animals, which are seemingly sentient beings, for
food... Imagine, being pampered, fed luxurious and nutritionally
balanced foods, solely for the purpose of fattening you up, so that
you will make a delicable dish. That is what the world of humans does
every day. We call it various forms of farming....

But, Will, that's not true! Feedlot animals live in horrid conditions relative to their natural habits and fed diets they are not suited by nature to eat in order to fatten them up for market. Range fed animals live way nature intended, but the typical supermarket meat product comes from an awful life for feedlot critters.

On the other hand, consumption of animal flesh seems to come naturally
for us carnivorous primates who call ourselves humans.

It's what we're made to eat, optimally. We're the top of the food chain, as much a part of nature as any other animal.

For diabetics, animal flesh (high in protein) seems to be a viable
altrnative to a surfeit of carbs.... Too many carbs for a T2= death.
<ouch, the howls from the Carb pushers is deafening here>

The ethical dilemma also reminds me of the practice in China of
pampering and fattening up convicted criminals, solely for the
purpose of harvesting their body parts for international sale as
transplants...

Where do we draw the lines?

I reject the notion that eating animals is unethical. OTOH, raising them in unhealthy, miserable conditions is unethical, unhealthy for them and produces an inferior product in terms of human health, too. Range feeding is where I draw the line; grass fed meat and dairy, uncaged chickens and wild caught fish.
