: I think that you have expressed quite well what some of us experience as

: Personally I experience it as both - frustration sometimes, confusion

: of delicate balance of 'so far' <G>.
I use egg substitutes or egg whites for my omelettes, and try to use
"good" fats and oils tht are actually cardioprotective. As you don't need
to loose weight, you are freer to use more avocatdo, nuts, etc in your
diet than those of us more worried about our calories.
Well, as for me but not for John, I am continuing to work on weight loss. I
don't like avocados, although I did manage to eat my portion of a dinner
salad that had been completely tossed in an avocado based healthy dressing.
It was hard, though, and only being a polite guest helped me manage it.
Nuts, yeah, people always seem to think nuts are so high in calories for me
to be eating. But, they have become a valuable snack food for me & I eat
them with/in yogurt & without the nuts in them and/or at the same time if on
the side, I am pretty sure that my yogurt of choice would spike me.
There is no need
to eat large amounts of animal fat to be a well controlled diabetic.
Then, perhaps it is a question of choices for me, and/or being satisfied,
conquering hunger & cravings, etc.
What
does present problems is the kind of "healthy"whole grains and legumes tht
are encouraged for cardio health eting, but often spike us diabetics too
esily. You do need the calories to just maintain your excellent weight,
so the gher fat an dprotein you may well have to et should be lean meats,
fish, oils rather than solid fats, etc.
Regrding tings lie whole grains and legumes, yu will have to find out for
yourself, but continutin your testing program wht foods work for you and
at what times fo the day they work for you. Maybe not for breakfasst, but
for lunch, dinner or tht night snack of Alan A, of meusli( granola -like
stuff) mitght work for you and give you the needed calories as well as the
benefits of those whole grains and legumes.
Incidentally, I have recently found that I can tolerate mosest amounts of
lentils or barley, so I use half the amount in a soup thn the recipe calls
for and add other non-carby vegetables.
At some point, though, you also have to look at how many changes you can
make to what you eat & how quickly you can make them. I don't believe you
can totally remake your palate, although I do believe you can change it. For
example, eating meusli would be akin to punishment to me. <G>
