My own feelings are that meds are there to be used if, and
only if, modifications to diet and lifestyle are inadequate
to improve blood pressure and lipids. I did that for A1c and
lipids - but eventually took the meds in the sig.
On risk, there are various analysers such as this one from
the UKPDS organisation that give a broad indication, but I
stress that individuals can be quite different to
statistical models:
