Also, most people probably don't know this, but you can't drive an
18- wheeler in the US if you're on insulin. There's probably other
jobs with restrictions also, I just happen to know about that one
because I have a CDL, which I am unlikely to ever be able to use
again. So... there's probably a few jobs out there that it's not
even worth trying for if you know you'd be disqualified.

But in most workplaces and if you aren't at risk for hypoglycemia,
it probably wouldn't matter if you disclose or not - so I'd say it's
a matter of personal preference who you tell.

You can fly a plane on insulin if you can show the instructor how you
can inject and test yourself while flying. There is a diabetic stunt
pilot touring the states during airshows.

I think Mack may have some information bearing upon this discussion,
when he comes around... As he has shared in the past, he is a T1, and
has a rather demanding job working in security.

Could be. I quit flying when I lost hearing in one ear after 24 years of
flying. I didn't have to quit but it seemed the prudent thing to do.

From my perspective, there are plenty of reasons why no one needs to fly
for recreation without all the current training and all the senses
working. Part time pilots are, in my opinion, an accident waiting to
happen. Guys like Travolta that fly large multiengine jets for fun don't
keep up with the constant changes to every aspect of flying or go through
rigorous check rides on a routine basis. It's an everyday job just to
keep up.

I'm just wondering when he'll take up part time brain surgery.

John Denver and JFK Jr might want to pipe up and add something to this
thread.
