I'm wondering when you take your metformin, and whether you're doing
2x1000 or 4x500 (I assume they are extended release). This may seem silly,
but last fall I was seeing similar numbers. I've juggled my medication
schedule, and that seems to have helped. I'm on 4x500 - I take one before
breakfast, one before dinner, one before bed and one when I wake in the
middle of the night - usually around 3 or 4 am. This, and a glass of dry
red wine before retiring has really helped to knock the FBG numbers down.
FWIW - I find that any calories (except the booze) after dinner seems to
kick my numbers up. All I can suggest is to keep trying til you find what
works.
I take 1x1000 in the morning, usually around 8-9am, and another 1x1000
at midnight. I don't typically wake up once I'm asleep, so I couldn't
do the schedule you do (my wife often jokes that I have all these
weapons in the house, ostensibly to protect against intruders, but all
one has to do is wait until I'm asleep and they could make all the
noise they want and I'd never wake up to make use of said weapons!)...
I'm also one of those people that can't stand the taste of alcohol, so
the wine wouldn't work for me.
Well, it seems like maybe being around 100 isn't terrible, so I think
I'll do as you say and just keep trying various things, and mention it
to my doctor next visit... I'm just leary of him wanting to up my
dosages when I'm trying to do the exact opposite.
It's not all that bad to see numbers like that. Mine were running
similarly last summer - no matter what I did - had a couple of days with
about 10 miles of hiking and were still in that range. BTW - have you
tried some hearty exercise in the evening - after dinner. I find that will
sometimes help me. Anyway, you have to live with what you have. I can't
really see anything I'd suggest you do differently. Just keep plugging and
remain aware - the numbers may come down after a while - mine did, but I
was on that 'plateau' for about a year.
