<<As one would expect, Moore frequently refers to the 47 million
Americans without health insurance, but fails to point out that most of
those are uninsured for only brief periods, or that millions are already
eligible for government medical programs but fail to apply. >>
are you from the US? brief periods? are you joking? if you lose your job
you are entitled to keep you your health insurance...if you pay your
premiums. and how does one do that when unemployed?
there is no guarentee that a person will find work in 3 months.
insurance payments do not come before feeding your children.
the millions eligible fall into different catagories. one of those is
being homeless. one cannot qualify for medicaid if one has no address.
i have never met one person with no income who has failed to apply for
public assistance for heath care. i have never met one person with low
income
who has failed to apply for public assistance for heath care. however, i
have seen them denied, or given insane spendown ammounts to qualify that
they cant possibly meet & therefore wind up with no health coverage but
some measly food stamps instead.
<<Moreover, Moore implies that people without health insurance don't
receive health care. In reality, most do. Hospitals are legally
obligated to provide care regardless of ability to pay, and while
physicians do not face the same legal requirements, few are willing to
deny treatment because a patient lacks insurance. Treatment for the
uninsured may well mean financial hardship, but by and large they do
receive care.>>
excuse me...the emergency room is obligated to stabilize you. period.
end of story. they are not obligated to keep u or perform surgery.
"by and large they do recieve"...minimal care. and btw...do you know who
keeps the hospitals afloat? the uninsured.
insurance companies have a cap on each service. but poor people are fair
game. they can be sued, they can be threatened. they can lose
everything. ask a hospital administrator if you dont believe me.
