Also, there's a stress factor involved in getting the timing right to
get the meter to work. Stress can increase your blood sugar, which will
artificially raise your reading. So you shouldn't really take your first
few readings seriously. Stress factors are unlikely to raise a "normal"
80 to 196, so this isn't a "get out of jail free" card. Getting an
actual, plausible number, though, is feedback that you're using the
meter correctly. So the next few tests should be easier. And then you
can start using the numbers for feedback on what you should (and
shouldn't!) be eating.
