your attempt to discredit wkipedia claimed that the newport news was not a des moines class but salem class. the official history of the ship includes a comment about by 'less educated' people who thought that she was a salem class. check the historical overview link on the url you gave as 'proof' of your claims. it sort of makes you look like an idiot when you are classed as 'less educated' about heavy cruisers and the des moines class by the very ships historical oganization of the ship you performed so many heroic deeds on.

you were a very junior supply officer barely out of training - a
uniformed clerk but according to you you were directing fire on a heavy
cruiser in combat. how many people do you think will believe that?

you were a hero who saved his mens lives by hearing an artillery piece
fire and ordering his men to take cover before the shell landed? forget about velocity and speed of sound etc on a heavy cruiser in a combat situation the gun crews are all well experienced men and experienced men dont need orders from wet behind the ears very low ranking clerical officers to take cover from incoming fire.

the navy not just wikipedia says that the newport news was not subject
to hostile fire. in the inquiry into the turret explsion there is a
comment on the 'irony' of so much damage and death when she had avoided
hostile fire. i suggest you read it instead of just talking about it!
