Well they clearly saw in x-rays (1992) that my esophagus valve was

Sometime in the late 90's I quit Prilosec for about 2 years and
things were great. I assume this was because my esophagus valve had
time to heal. But in a couple more years, it slowly came back. I
treated it with Mallox and Tums (like 40 times the recommended
dosage).

On my endoscopy, I had ulcers and pyloric stenosis, with severe GERD.
High dose antibiotics got rid of the GERD initially. Have you been
tested for h.pylori with a urea breath test?

Hi Susan. I know they where looking for ulcers at first. And they couldn't find anything. Then I had to take an x-ray with some liquid and they could clearly see that my stomach contains would leak right into my throat. And I have no idea if they did a h.pylori with a urea breath test.

I think treating it with Tums and Mallox was a big mistake. As I had
very bad heart burn for years after this. And I believe I really
damaged my esophagus valve really bad. I do test it now and then and
stop taking Omeprazole and wait for symptoms to reappear. I can
manage without it for a day or two, but not too much longer as the
heart burn starts getting bad again.

One would think that I could just take it every other day then. I
tried that too, it still gets worse. I even tried half dose a day
(10mg). What might work is taking 40mg for awhile (as with this
dosage my esophagus valve just might heal again). As I believe that
is what I was taking before I quit it for a couple of years without
problems. I can't seem to do that with just 20mg.

I don't doubt that you have GERD/reflux and esophageal damage. I am
suggesting that instead of throwing chemicals at the symptom, you find
the cause, as I did. You might try stopping starch consumption so see
if that helps, since so many folks've reported their GERD
disappearing.

I don't know it seems pretty cut and dry to me. The esophagus valve is on the right side of the stomach. If I lay down on my right side without Omeprazole or the like, I'll have really severe heart burn without eating anything. Lay of the left side, problems decreases tremendously. In fact, the problem is gone laying on the left side unless I have a lot in my stomach. But if I go too long without Omeprazole, it doesn't matter if I am laying down, standing, sitting or anything. It gets really bad. So bad that I'll do anything for relief. Even drink a gallon of milk per hour if I have too. <sigh>

If it's avoidable, you don't want to add gastroparesis to your GERD,
as you have have done already, from your reported symptoms.

Well I don't know? How life threatening is gastroparesis anyway? And I think with trying to control BG peaks after meals, this is a wonderful thing. As what diabetic wouldn't want their peaks more straight line? And remember I was an untreated diabetic for about 15 years. And no real complications came from it (so far). And the only thing that makes me different from other untreated diabetics that I can find is the possibility of having gastroparesis or something like it. So in a strange twist, it could have saved my life so far. Don't you think?

It may be possible to prevent the GERD and get off the Prilosec
without return of symptoms or damage.

Yes that indeed would be very nice and I'll mention it to my doctor if he thinks a h.pylori with a urea breath test is in order or whatever he thinks that might be necessary to get me off of this Omeprazole.
