HI...a newcomer here, but I was diagnosed about last October with
type2. I have a question for you people. While my Blood sugar
levels have been mainly under control, but not as good as I would want
it lately...something happened that I don't know how to explain. I
take metformin 500mg 2 times a day, usually at 6AM (when I get up and
before I go to work) and 6 PM. Before I went to bed last night
(around 11 PM), I tested myself and my BS level was at 97. Now, I did
not have anything to eat for at least 4 hours before I went to bed, so
when I woke up in the morning and tested myself, I was surprised to
see my BS level to be 108. What would cause my blood sugar level to
go up during the night when I didn't have anything to eat to make it
go up?

Thank You for any information you can give me.

Dawn phenomenon will cause BG to go up in the morning, especially if you do
not have a snack before bed. However... Your numbers, 97 and 108 are
fairly close together and well within the range of meter error. Also, BG
(BS is something else) is not totally stable. It will vary from minute to
minute. I wouldn't worry about it. You're within the range you want.

OK..I have always reffered to it as Blood Sugar, not blood glucose.
My Doctor knows what I am talking about, I guess my terminology is not
the best.

When you say 97 vs 108 is meter error..I don't get it. For the last 8
months, I have been relying on that meter to tell me what is going
on. My goal has been trying to stay under 100, and on my old
medicine, I was doing that constantly. Since my last checkup, my Dr
told me I was doing much better and put me on the straight MEtformin
(the other was a combo of metformis and something else, I cant
rememeber what) and since then, I have been struggling to stay under
100, being in the 95-120 range most of the time. It is frustrating,
but now you are telling me what I have been using is not reliable. I
just don't get it.
