Susan: I liked your post about misdiagnosis. I'd like to see the term
"obesity linked diabetes" referred as OLD and "non-obesity linked
diabetes" referred as NOLD. I am hearing "obesity linked diabetes"
more and more these days and implies the fact that there are many
subtypes of T2 diabetes. My spin is the unfortunate fact that Docs
mostly think OLD and sometimes use the wrong drugs per cooky cutter
approach. I recent medical decisions about my care sometimes based on
OLD inappropriate approaches. Just an idea for us to consider. :-)
I think that's too narrow a view. The obesity is a sign to be considered in evaluating someone medically. Not only obesity, but the pattern of weight distribution.
The problem is how many folks with DM, PCOS, hypothyroidism, stretch marks, fatty pads at the back of the neck and throat, flushed, reddened faces, morbid obesity aren't being screened for their entire endocrine picture, including pituitary/adrenal hormones.
I don't think which drugs to use are the issue; removing the cause of the endocrine dysfunction is more to the point.
