Looking at wht you do when you see a number in teh 80's looks like a
problem to me. You took cake once and then jumped to a high number and a
regular coke another time and jumped to a high number. 80's are not lows,
but you may well be afraid tht you are heading there. Try a mixed clower
acting carb, like some whole grain crackers like Wasa Bread or Ryevita
with
some fat or protein on it rather than a bunch of very fast cting carbs
like coke or cake. this might keep you from yo-yoing so much.
: Hi Bill
: Testing should be done systematically to learn or confirm
: information. Testing every hour without using that result to
: learn from it is a waste of a strip.
: Here's that different view again:
: 7:00 Drank black coffee all day 7:30
: 8:00 112 Lilinopril 2.5mg, Metoprolol 25mg,
: Omeprazole 20mg,
: 8:30
: 9:00 147 Insulin 7R-14N
: 9:30
: 10:00 144
: 10:30
: 11:00 131
: 11:30
: 12:00 109 Ate a piece of cake, to keep me from going
: too low
: 12:30
: 13:00
: 13:30 185 [it certainly worked:-(] 14:00
: 14:30 114 Ate 4 handfuls of mixed nuts 15:00
: 15:30 126
: 16:00
: 16:30 136 6R-7N
: 17:00
: 17:30
: 18:00 86 Taken a spoonful of honey 18:30 88 Ate
: chop suey and drank a regular Coke 19:00
: 19:30
: 20:00 205
: 20:30 204
: 21:00
: 21:30 192
: 22:00 228
: 22:30
: 23:00
: 23:30
: 0:00
: Think about it again. That has to be one of the worst two
: day's menu for a type 2 I've seen posted anywhere:-)
: Some obvious points - and remember I know very little about
: insulin.
: 1. You need to eat something for breakfast to stop that
: liver dump. As to what to eat - experiment. Eat a different
: breakfast for seven consecutive days and see which three
: work best. Then check those again to see if you can improve
: on them.
: 2. The 80's, which the 6R-7N may be responsible for, are NOT
: lows and do not need to be corrected. Your honey+chop suey
: (what was in it - not the foods but the fillers, fats and
: sweeteners?)+regular coke meant that I am totally
: unsurprised by the constant high numbers for the next few
: hours.
: And those days when you had three meals were not "my way" at
: all because your tests bore no timing relationship to those
: meals; the averages are useless as a means of analysing the
: causes of highs and lows. It's the peaks and troughs and the
: causes of those which interest me.
: "My way" would be something like this, but making sure you
: eat breakfast, lunch and dinner in your case. Quoting
: myself:
: "Start with whatever you eat now.
: Eat, then test after eating at your spike time and if BG???s
: are too high then review what you ate and change the menu
: next time. Then do that again, and again, and again until
: what you eat doesn???t spike you. You will get some surprises,
: particularly at breakfast time. The so-called
: "heart-healthy" Breakfasts are NOT for most type 2's.
: Similarly, you will find variations through the day - the
: same thing will have different effects at breakfast, lunch,
: dinner and supper. But I can't say how they will affect
: others - only how it affected me - which is why we all need
: to test ourselves.
: As you gradually improve your blood glucose levels, review
: the resulting way of eating to ensure adequate nutrition,
: fibre etc are included and adjust accordingly.
: Then test again.
: Test, review, adjust, always towards better and better
: health."
