The conventional diet (C) was a standard diabetic diet with 60% of the

A high-fat diet, enriched with MUFA, served as the experimental diet (M),
composed of commonly available food items. The diet consisted of 45%
carbohydrates (having a similar glycaemic index as the conventional diet),
10% protein, and 45% fat.

Thank you!

Then, instead of focusing on the MUFA improving bg and A1C, another
interpretation is that the less of the standard high-carbohydrate diet
diebetic patients got, the better their bg and A1Cs.

MUFA might have some special effect, but it seems likely that it was the
somewhat reduced carbs that did the trick.

Hi Jim Chinnis,
a very good observation I think.Yes that might be a conclusion from that
article.Because : carbohydrate + fat + protein = calories.Where the calories
is just a constant so if one comes up another must come down.

There are however sharp statistical tools to seperate effects.Look for
factor analysis or logistic regression. And the good news is that this has
been done in large cohorts of patients for all kinds of factors. The
unsaturated fat effect has a large specific effect. The trans fat effect has
a large negative an specific effect on cancers. An effect apart from its
calorie , body weight promoting , effect.
Thanks for your interest in this complicated matters
