Re: ADA Tip of the Day "fat replacers"

One thing I have learned about fat free products.
They remind me of when I first tasted diet soda. YUCK!!!!!
I used to hate the taste.
I actually like the taste of diet soda much more than that sugar drink I
used to have.

I have found the same to be true with fat free and light products.
I eat all kinds of cheese, fat free, part skim and regular.
I simply look at the meal and see which would be a healthier choice to use.

I dont like warm fat free cheese, like when put on a hamburger but cold with
a lil
smart balance mayo on 2 slices of weight watchers bread some veggies and a
cup of diet soda.
its just a new choice to choose from. Fat Free yogurt is something else I
have learned to enjoy.

There is a place in my diet for all foods, they just have to be eaten with
some thought.

As you are with your hate. The ADA isn't "pushing" fat replacers,
they are addressing that they exist and giving a balanced evaluation
of them. Anyone with a non-cement brain like yours will see these
statements are not "pushing" fat replacers:

"Most fat replacers are made from carbohydrates and can raise your
blood glucose level."

"Remember that food with a fat replacer can still have lots of
calories."

"It may cause cramping, diarrhea, and inhibit the absorption of some
fat-soluble vitamins."

"Check the Nutrition Facts panel for calories and the amount of
carbohydrate, fat, and protein in foods with fat replacers."

Unlike the usual bad advice foisted on people in this newsgroup by you
and a few others, they show both sides of an issue and acknowledge
that diabetics in the real world aren't alleged perfect angels that
some present themselves in here to be. Lots of diabetics will eat fat
replacers because they think they are doing a good thing. Their tip
of the day points out some reasons not to use them and deals with the
reality that some will. In that case they suggest working with a
dietician to make sure that if they do use them that they do so with a
full understanding of how they will affect their diet.
