pastaMy dinner was skinless chook breast, cooked in the micro with a bit of
sauce, mushies, onions, snow peas and two vile tasting baby corn cobs
(canned).
Canned? I've found I can handle a quarter of a corn cob as a
vege serve at dinner only. I bought a few at the market on
Sunday. Shuck them, chop them in four (or six if they are
big), blanche them (two or three minutes in the boiling
water, then into the ice water) drain and freeze. They come
up like new with a quick defrost in the microwave, then
dropped in boiling water for a few minutes, not too long,
then slathered with butter and a little salt. mmmm...
Canned are handy for stir fries, these were disgusting but I can't waste :)
Had the vile things a few times this week. I usually have fresh or frozen as
part of veggies a couple of times a week.
Veggies on the side were Brussels sprouts, carrot, cauli, peas andG'night.
broccoli. No more snacks, I have to be up at 4.30 am, boys fly home from
Brissie. Early bed for me.
Should have stayed in bed ;) Left home at 5.20 am for the 1 1/4 hr trip,
added extra time for getting fuel. Woke to fog. Just before 6 got the first
call, flight delayed half an hour, then another, then another that said an
hour, so two hours so far. Then a wait and see and at 9 a cancel. No flights
in or out before at least 10 am at Newcastle Airport. 15 minutes later the
fog cleared. Now have to do the trip again on Saturday arvo.
In a previous life, in 1967, I was a GCA (Ground Controlled
Approach) AN/CPN/4 radar technician on a combined
civil/military strip. We only had four GCA setups at the
time, so they were allocated to the foggiest military
airstrips in Australia.
The civil aircraft weren't officially supposed to use us,
because it meant passing control to the ground, but I
watched many Qantas F27's come down our glide-slopes on the
PPI displays in deep fog.
Guess which airstrip I was based at?
Williamtown was the RAAF name, Newcastle Airport was the
civilian name:-)
Cheers, Alan, T2, Australia.
