You mention having higher BGs after exercising in the morning. ?Are
you eating before you exercise? ?If not, your liver may decide you
need the glucose and put some out into your system. ?Why? ?Well, your
liver doesn't read your BG directly. ?It reads your insulin level. ?If
your insulin level low, the liver *thinks* your BG is low too. ?If you
eat a little bit, you get your insulin going and your liver behaves
itself.

Thanks for an explanation that makes sense! I keep getting frustrated
by a) highest BG reading of the day is my FBS and b) getting
"blindsided" by a high reading that's the result of my either not
eating enough at a meal or letting too many hours pass between
"feedings". (One of the drawbacks to me of this condition is that food
loses some of its social aspects and meanings and takes on a new
identity: food as medicine. I'm *hoping* that as I get used to the
diabetes I will quit obsessivly eyeing every single edible thing in
terms of does it help or hinder my getting best possiblecontrolof
BS.)

Hi Sarah,

It seems to me it's easier to get a handle on what you're doing if you
know why. ?I'm glad you found the explanation helpful.

Boy, do I know what you mean about the relationship to food changing--
becoming a "medicine" rather than a social experience. ?However, I
think the fact that we tend to think of food as a means to a social
bond is what is responsible for the rising rates of obesity. ?So
perhaps, the more fundamental view of food is one the entire western
society could use.

In any case, I can assure you that you will get used to it. ?It just
takes awhile to get all the details worked out.

Hi Michelle/Alan: The way I interpreted you comment (as Kurt did as
well). You said "If you can't pinpoint something ....., then it's time
to consult with your doctor.... Kurt and I say at ALL times consult
with your doctor. Thats all ...no big deal..(just semantics perhaps)

Hi Larry,

Probably semantics. I in no way implied the doctor should be left out
of the loop, information withheld, etc. When I offer suggestions,
they are merely strategies/information to consider or try in between
doctor visits. No one can spend his/her life 24/7 with the doctor.
My comment about contacting the doctor if she is unable to "pinpoint
something" was meant to infer that she might not want to wait for her
next appointment and contact the doctor sooner. So give me a break.
