I'm currently on Glucovance (Glyburide + Metformin) and I may talk to my doctor about switching to just Metformin. I've read that 1500 mg is kind of like a minimum dosage to get a reasonable benefit in lowering bg.

I'd like to ask the type 2's here, what dosage you take of Metformin, do you combine it with other bg lowering drugs, slow or regular style.

Thanks, Just trying to get an idea of what's typically taken when taking Metformin alone.
Thanks,

The only thing I'm taking is 1500 Metformin HCL 750 mg and my A1C is
6.2.

As a side note; about two years ago I had been taking metformin (1000
mg) for about a year when I started developing double vision. It got
so bad that when I looked at a car about 150 yards away there were two
cars with enough room between them to drive the third car in between.
Now this problem wasn't too bad when I was looking at an attractive
woman but it did get to be a pain.

I went to the ophthalmologist and he couldn't find anything wrong and
suggested that I have a prism put in my classes which we did in the
beginning. But as a problem worsened he couldn't figure out what to
do so he sent me to a neurologist.

Long story short, through blood tests he determined I was completely
depleted of vitamin B12 causing neurological problems mainly with my
eyes.

Immediately after a series of B-12 injections the double vision
disappeared! But no one can tell me why I had a B-12 deficiency until
I did a side effects search and found out that about 11% of those
people on metformin come up with a vitamin B12 deficiency to one
extent or another. I now have to inject myself about once every two
weeks to maintain the proper B-12 in my system.

My GP, the ophthalmologist, the neurologist and I got a little bit of
an education.

I hope this might help someone?

I also read about the possible B12 deficiency. Maybe I'll ask if I can have that checked at the next blood work before I ask about upping my Metformin.
