A known problem with cortico steroids is increased BG. But it seems
many doctors and vets don't know about this.
My cat went totally off scale (BG 600+) on prednisone and then
dexamethasone given to him for his asthma. Took him off the meds, then
on insulin for a few weeks, then off the dry food (hi carb) & fed wet
food only (not the recalled product!), and now back to normal readings
(85-105 typical). Monitored via glucometer & ear sticks.

I have been taking prednisone for celiac sprue for 2 weeks. It has been
working great, most of my physical symptoms have just about disappeared and
I have been able to eat a better diet.
I had expected a lot of bad side effects but so far the only one has been my
BG control. It is like I was back in the honeymoon phase. The same amount of
food/insulin has such unpredictable results. The doctor said it could be my
ability to absorb food that was changing. I don't like it when my FBG is 155
then in the same afternoon I have a severe hypo.
