I had my "monthly" doctor visit today. I have monthly appointments because
of the schedule II narcodics I'm still taking and fed law prohibits
refills... it sux
because I'm sick of having to dish out money every month but oh well..
anyhow
we went over my last months lab results. basically they sux'd big time
because
of the holidays. UG! I brought in my 30 day results printed off of my meter
and
thankfully they're MUCH better! She was even more impressed at the fact that
I'd lost 9lbs. She said she was glad I was being more active. LOL I said,
yah,
those trips from the couch to the bathroom and/or kitchen really give me a
heck
of a workout! Well we'd checked my TSH last month and it was .7 -- she sent
me over to the lab (same office) and had them run my TSH right then and in
20mins we had the results. I was running .217 this morning. She's holding
off
on a dx of Hyperthyroid to see if this is just how low I normally run. But
she
thought it was great that I had such a great metabolism. Oh yeah! just wish
I felt like it too.
Then we went over my schedule II meds LOL.. She'd already wrote out my new
script before she'd came into the room. I looked at it and told her.. "I
really don't
want 60mg.. 30mg will do me just fine" She did a double look like "huh?"
Then I
told her that we'd gone from 15mg @ 2x a day to 60mg @ 2x a day. I thought
the
poor woman was going to cry! She must have apologized at least a dozen times
for almost killing me! I told her don't worry about it.. we all make
mistakes, and
that most times patients have to beg their doctor for more pain meds and
mine just
throws them at me. LOL She's like well you didn't OD did you? I said, no, I
know
how to handle it when I take too many.. a chocolate shake does the trick
everytime
to suck up the extra and calm the belly. I told her at least you can have a
good
laugh with your hubby tonight. She then tells me her hubby is an attorney
LOL
and he'd tell her, she could have had a malpractice. I told her, if I'd
OD'd it'd fully
been my fault for NOT reading the label.. which I didn't, OPPS! but
something told
me not to double up like I'd been doing because of tolerance. So, we
changed the
both of my scripts to 30mg and changed my records to reflect the same so the
nurse wouldn't write another one for 60mg like she'd done and the doctor
just
signed it. LOL then she told me not to send any of my drug addict friends
to her.
LOL I said, not a prob.. I don't have any. We got a good laugh outta that
whole
ordeal.
Then she was jazzed that my trigs and LDL had gone down so much by
themselves
but asked me to keep on the Vytorin for another few months to see if it
helps bring
up my HDL.. since everything else we've tried hasn't worked as of yet. Not
a prob,
I agreed.
She then asked me if I wanted to try Symlin yet.. Which I'd asked her if we
could
try it a few months back.. So she wrote me out a script for it.. and we had
a nice
convo about how it works at which time she said as she wrote out the
script.. that
I apparently already know more about the medication then she does and that
I'm
gunho about ALL of my treatment and no matter what she says, that I'll do
what
I want anyhow. LOL I said I'd listen to her and follow directions.. she said
that she
was happy that I was gunho and very pro-active about my health and that she
trusted
me to adjust the medication on my own. She did ask that I test no less then
10x a
day to see exactly how it was working and to keep careful charts for the
next 30 days
so we can see how it's working.. she said she was excited to see how it was
going
to work and that she only had one other T1 on it and the woman isn't as
pro-active
as I am.. but she told her about how pro-active I was and now the woman is
testing
more daily and taking better care of herself. LOL guess I started a
competition. :)
She also thanked me a few extra times about the fact 3 months ago, I
literally FORCED
her (bitched enough) to give me my 9 month Cortizone injection in my wrists
because
of the tendonitis. She said at that time she had NO idea how to do it and
I'd basically
instructed her where to inject because I'd had so many already I knew and
just told
her.. Oddly enough, she didn't hurt ONE single bit.. which she still was
laughing about
that it should have hurt.. said I was odd! LOL.. I asked her if she now just
figured that
out.. another good laugh we had together.. Well she said because of me
having her
do that.. that now she's more comfortable and gaining confidence and has
injected
several other patients because of simular problems in their hands and
they've all thanked
her for not sending them to another doctor having to wait months.
I gotta say... Even though this doctor is only a Internal Med person.. she
does care
about the patient and she does listen to what the patient has to say.. She
asked me again
today when I was starting med school. LOLOL... told her... "hmm dunno!"
This is why it's important to have an open relationship with your doctor...
you listen to
them and they can listen to you.. and you BOTH come up with a solution to
your medical
issues. And then.. everyone is happy!
