I agree my health is more impotent that worrying about what other
people think except for my friends. My group of friends in my school
and neighborhood is limited. If I loose the ones I have now I wouldn't
have any. My friends don't appreciate just how serious this is and how
impotent it will be to me. If they did they might not care anyway.

I know at your age it's hard to think in these terms about friends.
However, if you lose any of your friends because you have diabetes,
they were never your friends to begin with. And the truth is they
were never anyone's friends because they don't know what friendship
is.

I'm not having any trouble with the testing or injecting. The pain
is minor with the softclix lancer which is much better than the QID or
Ultra lancers.
The more I learn about this diabetes the more I doubt I will ever
be able to live with it without my constant attention. If I were a
genius like some others I might be able to cope with it and continue
normal activities like school or college but I'm not. I've learned
enough to realize that better control will mean more hypo events
poorer control will mean bad complications. Diabetes is a looser no
matter how I try to control it.

it doesn't have to be that way and your conclusions are slightly off.
Take myself for example. I was diagnosed at 8 years old, before the
first home meter went on the market. What we knew as good control
back then is not considered good control today. Add to that my
personal life experiences, being raised by parents that didn't care
that I was diabetic. They bought my insulin and syringes and testing
supplies and that was the extent of their involvement in my diabetes
care. I rarely saw doctors after I was diagnosed and released from
the hospital, simply because they did not want to pay for them. I
fought for my own rights in school. To test, bring insulin and
syringes and inject as needed. although most of the time back then I
was poorly controlled and avoided taking the needed insulin while in
school. When they finally tossed me out and I ended up with my foster
family things changed slowly because I was unwilling to change for
many years. Now that I am tightly controlled and pumping it is a bit
more difficult than it would have been had I been controlled from the
beginning. And there are many others here who slightly similar
stories of early years without control and later trying to get into
control.

You on the other hand have the opportunity to get in control now and
learn good habits now, to keep you in control. So you can avoid the
short term frequent hypos and the long term complications.

Diabetes seems overwhelming right now so it is understandable that you
have fears of the future and your ability to get through school and
such. However that is just the fear talking. Seriously it is only
fear. Look at the following links:

The only things that hold us back because of diabetes are other
people's ignorance and our fear of standing up to that ignorance.
