Well today was the visit to the endocrinologist, and was somewhat6.8
disappointing. He thought my numbers were great. I started with a1c at
last December, and now down to 5.7 was about all he seemed interested in.fasting
The fact that a number of my other blood work is seriously out of whack,
including being anemic (he said that wasn't his area of expertise, go back
to my primary) didn't seem to register, or matter. The fact that my
BG are rarely under 100 seemed to be okay--as long as they stayed in the100
to 110 range. The anemia would be a concern, but I don't think there's anything wrong with
your numbers.
He did give me a higher prescription for Metformin--to take an extra 500or
1000 when I expected not to adhere to my diet and to allow me to balancethe
diet better than strict low carb.
Huh? Metformin is not a fast acting med and it doesn't work that way. All
that will accomplish is to perhaps give you a hypo a day or two after you
ate the "bad" meal. If your Dr. thinks it will, you need to find another
Dr.!
He did give me a prescription for 1 on 1 extensive diabetic and dietSince
counseling--looks like several hours with an 80-mile round trip!!!!
I am self-employed there is no such thing as a day or days off to doit.....
I'll give it a shot and burn the midnight oil!
Good luck with that. My dad went this week for his diabetes lessons. Can't
wait to hear what they tell him.
rarely
Monday I went SCUBA Diving. My fasting BG in the a.m. was 114. I had 2
eggs and 12 oz. of skim milk for breakfast, ok I know 16 carbs, but I
drink milk any more (my favorite food) and I figured the exercise wouldtake
care of it. Loaded and unloaded gear, and spent over 2 hours undergreat
water--gentle exercise, but steady. Didn't eat anything for lunch--no
time, too busy. Stopped for dinner (Applebee's Asian salad has been
for my numbers) and pre-dinner check was 129! I thought it would be very"sunset
low! 2 hours after dinner it was 112. I can't figure those numbers out.
Did the fact that I didn't eat between breakfast and dinner cause a
phenomenon?" Endo couldn't explain it either.
Skipping the lunch was a bad idea. Never heard of a "sunset phenomenon" but
if your Endo. couldn't explain it, that's just another reason to find
another Dr.
Your body expects to be fed at certain hours. If it doesn't, it fears that
you might have a hypo, so your live dumps glucose to compensate. For a
"normie" this isn't a problem. For a diabetic, it could cause higher BG.
Now it doesn't seem to work this way for all of us and even when it does,
this doesn't happen all the time. I went through a period of time where I
needed to adhere to a strict eating schedule. If I didn't, I suffered from
hypos or high BG. But then I started having high BG all the time. I found
I could only eat a tiny breakfast of minimal carbs, no lunch whatever, not
even a bite, and then a normal dinner. Or normal for a diabetic, anyway.
Went through that for a few months but now I'm back to having more normal
numbers and am finding I not only have to eat a few carbs with breakfast but
that I can not skip lunch!
Now it's off to the "education" prescribed, and back to the primary to
figure out how to straighten out the rest of my numbers!
The more I learn about this disease, the less I know!
Yep!
