Endo visit

Well today was the visit to the endocrinologist, and was somewhat
disappointing. He thought my numbers were great. I started with a1c at 6.8
last December, and now down to 5.7 was about all he seemed interested in.
The fact that a number of my other blood work is seriously out of whack,
including being anemic (he said that wasn't his area of expertise, go back
to my primary) didn't seem to register, or matter. The fact that my fasting
BG are rarely under 100 seemed to be okay--as long as they stayed in the 100
to 110 range.
He did give me a higher prescription for Metformin--to take an extra 500 or
1000 when I expected not to adhere to my diet and to allow me to balance the
diet better than strict low carb.
He did give me a prescription for 1 on 1 extensive diabetic and diet
counseling--looks like several hours with an 80-mile round trip!!!! Since
I am self-employed there is no such thing as a day or days off to do it.....
I'll give it a shot and burn the midnight oil!
Monday I went SCUBA Diving. My fasting BG in the a.m. was 114. I had 2
eggs and 12 oz. of skim milk for breakfast, ok I know 16 carbs, but I rarely
drink milk any more (my favorite food) and I figured the exercise would take
care of it. Loaded and unloaded gear, and spent over 2 hours under
water--gentle exercise, but steady. Didn't eat anything for lunch--no
time, too busy. Stopped for dinner (Applebee's Asian salad has been great
for my numbers) and pre-dinner check was 129! I thought it would be very
low! 2 hours after dinner it was 112. I can't figure those numbers out.
Did the fact that I didn't eat between breakfast and dinner cause a "sunset
phenomenon?" Endo couldn't explain it either.
Now it's off to the "education" prescribed, and back to the primary to
figure out how to straighten out the rest of my numbers!
The more I learn about this disease, the less I know!
