I'm with you Sarah... and as a T2, lowered carbs and 1500mg of Metformin is what's kept me in tight control for the 7 years since dx.
i am glad you have had great control with your numbers. however Sarah does wiegh far less and her 80 - 90 carbs per day is much different than your diet.
I'm not exactly sure how you could know what my diet is Tom... aside from the carb count.
You can check back, as I recall, many times when I
listed what my food choices consisted of on a particular day you expressed amazement to the point of disbelief at what I said I had eaten. In most cases you mentioned my weight as the reason. So unless you've decided I was telling the truth... then you cannot know what my diet consists of.
true but I was trying to point out that a person 100lbs heavier than another
is on a different type of diet even if the carb count is the same.
for all i know you could have lost a lot of wieght since the last time we talked.
i am not picking on you at all just showing that even tho the carb count might be the same a diet can be totally different.
No... you are not "picking on me". However you have used that phrase in your posts to me many times... so that it rings a bit hollow. Your concern seems more to be one of pointing out to others that I am fat... over and over.
if this was true i would say that every time you post your advice.
and to be honest with you sometimes i want to.
not to long ago a group of friends had an idea for a family softball game.
the team i was playing against had a 9 year old pitcher. it was all in fun so it didnt matter.
but everyone on my team was afraid to really hit the ball because they were afraid to hurt the child.
after a couple of at bats we insisted that they change the pitcher.
the same thing goes on here.
i feel funny when i point out things i dont like about your advice because you are here but everyone else here is free to insult mine and newbies doctors.
i dont remember ever reading about your exercise. do you do any?
Once again... you've asked me this question often before and commented on my responses in the past about my exercise. You may google back. I have said that I walk on the treadmill to Jeopardy approx 3 times a week. I also walk the dog, but not as much as she'd like.
yes but exercise changes over time. either we become stronger and our exercise increases,
we are where we want to be and say there, or we stop and become weeker again.
i was curious to see how your exercise has changed.
Since it is vital that a new diabetic find a way to normalize his glucose levels, asking them to immediately embark on a weight loss plan may not be the best choice.
and i think that is the reason that my diabetes has seemed to turn around while
i watch so many here add new medications year after year as their diabetes progresses.
and then these same people are the ones that claim low fat means more medications
when the people in here on low carb high fat diets seem to be the ones on the most medications.
It's like trying to stop smoking at the same time as losing weight. Tackle one thing at a time.
for me the 2 go hand in hand. i usually replace smoking with increased activity.
The good news for new diabetics is that
they CAN normalize their glucose levels before they lose weight... and as a bonus it is likely in the process that their weight will drop as well. Albeit very very slowly. Perhaps over five or six years. But that's how it went on isn't it? And that's how it worked for me.
so then wouldnt my asking about your weight be a great chance to explain how much weight you lost?
i would think it should be something you are proud of.
then again it was very possible that you gained some weight back since we last talked
about it.. i had and still have no way of knowing.
As for that opinion.. I know that many will not agree with me, and that's absolutely fine. I have not posted or voiced my thoughts on that subject for at least five or six years. The only time it gets printed here is when you bring it up.
The advice I do give, which I know you do not agree with... is about finding your own path to glucose control.
this is also what i disagree with. the advice you give i feel can only lead to 1 path
and that is low carb. and its not even that i am against a newbie wanting to try low carb but i think
they should know.
i will explain why i think it can only lead to low carb.
but that will have to be done in another post.

asking about how you are doing on a plan that you recommend to every newbie

I'm sorry, but I do not believe that you have posted from a honest concern as you state. I believe that your goal is to discredit my oft posted advice.
i believe i do not have the credit to discredit you by my questions.
i had no idea what the answers were going to be.
but yes i did believe you are still very heavy.
I'm not sure there is much you could say to change my mind about your intent. It comes up too often.
you might want to look at how others in here talk about the advice they disagree with.
should i be afraid to say what i dont like just because the creator of the advice posts here?
and who i also think might as well be a very good person.

i do hold back many times on how much i dislike that advice to newbies. i feel funny about that
because i dont really reply to people i reply to posts. I like Kurt and often have told him when i disagree with him.
and i am sorry that i feel so strongly that some people actualy get paid to work from home and spam certain products. how is it that so many people agree so much with each other on things that no leading diabetes organization would think is good advice. low carb is no secret its been out for a very long time.
most of my anger these days is not so much as the insults i get but mostly because i feel i am fighting with sales people. spammers are a live and well in usenet. one time i went and asked a question about
dreamweaver and was told by someone in Microsoft that i should buy front page.
if Microsoft has spammers here i am sure, Atkins, Bernstein and all the rest also do to.
but they must first chop down the giants and that is why I feel the ADA gets bashed so much.
so for the most part most of the time i feel i am talking to someone who may very well be a spammer.
