Hi Peter
Pax.
I think we've done this one to death. I see little point in
arguing further on a matter where we will obviously fail to
communicate or agree. Others can make their own decisions
based on our previous posts. Nor do I consider this point
important - it is peripheral to the thread IMO.
For myself, I'll continue to ignore all of the various
recommendations and make my decisions based on my meter, my
reading of Quentin, Bernstein, Becker and every bit of
dietary advice I've heard from all sources, my common sense
and my quarterly complete blood tests. But the meter and my
common sense are my over-riding guides. Yeah, I know, common
sense is rather uncommon.
To be honest I have no idea at the moment whether I eat low
or moderate carb. I would suspect I would be low compared to
the average citizen, but I also suspect I would also be low
in fat and protein compared to Mr Average.
If I get bored enough I'll run a day's menu through DWIDB
and see what comes out. I eat significant levels of carb in
the evening; a slice of bread here, a half-apple there,
cereal at bed-time; so the results may surprise me - and
you.
Going back to the original point of the discussion - the
"Nutrition Recommendations and Interventions for
Diabetes-2006" are so far out of the ball park comparing
them to my WOE - and the WOE of most here exhibited in our
occasional "What I ate Today" thread - that it would have to
be defined as high-carb in this forum, regardless of outside
definitions.
The point that very few have mentioned here is the absence
of any testing feedback related to nutrition in the ADA - or
Joslin - "Recomendations"; the missing link in ALL of the
various authorities (ADA, Mayo, Joslin, AACE etc) is the
link between the peak post-prandial BG excursion and the
food that led to it - and the ability to modify that food
and the subsequent link without necessarily reducing the
nutritional content of the diet.
That is, to my mind, the crucial point. Not the percentage
recommendations but the lack of that linkage.
Cheers, Alan, T2, Australia.
