I woke up this morning (Sunday 8/27/06, after 6 days of Lantus and no
Byetta) without the extreme hunger pangs, had a normal breakfast, and feel
"normal"!!! So it was either cold-turkey withdrawal symptoms from Byetta or
a start-up reaction to Lantus. Now I need to titrate the Lantus and track
my after-meal spikes from not having Byetta, and decide whether to ask the
doc to let me do both.

End of story. (I think)

One week ago my endo switched me from Byetta to Lantus. They Byetta was
controlling after-meal spikes, but did little or nothing on my dawn effect
(appx 140-150), which he thinks is causing my creep up in A1c (Before
Byetta
7.1; then 6.5 with Byetta; creeping up to 6.8).

I started at only 18 units of Lantus and am increasing 1 unit per day
until
my dawn number drops to around 100. That was 5 days ago and I'm not there
yet. However, I've noticed the following:

1. I'm almost constantly ravenously hungry. Even right after a meal when
my
belly is full, I still crave more. It's weird, and if there's anything I
don't need it's more food.

2. Before the meal my BG is pretty normal, about 93.

3. Since I stopped Byetta and started Lantus, I've been passing more gas
than normal.

Anybody have a clue what's up? I'm going to try to find the time to call
my
endo on Monday. I'm thinking I need to have Byetta along with the Lantus,
to curb the hunger, if nothing more.
