Exactly. I have always tried to be the people-pleaser, fix everything, make
it all right..... adult child of an alcoholic (a great book that fit, both,
my sister and me); always trying to make it all right with Daddy; never
succeeding. I was a very scared little girl, who grew up to be a scared
woman, afraid if I did anything wrong the world would crumble around me, and
I'd be a total failure. You talk about self-induced stress!! No wonder my
body rebelled! Outwardly, I appeared so fine, and well-adjusted, just
fitting in no matter where, or what; adjusting to moving every two years,
making friends immediately. That is what I was supposed to do, wasn't I ???
LOL No more. If someone doesn't like what I do now, fine. That is *their*
problem, not mine because I really do like myself nowadays, just as I am,
not expecting anything different of myself unless it is something *I* want
to be different. We both have reached this point, and it is funny to see
how much we respect what the other one thinks of us since it is not the
prevailing mode of our behaviors. We are so much more in synch together.
Jim just said we still have a long way to go, but we have sure come a long
way.
