I was the attorney for the state, who was brought in as co-counsel
approximately two weeks ago at the request of the prior counsel, who
is a very good friend....

I helped negotiate the settlement and drafted all the documents.

Twenty years ago, the Attorney General used to work as an intern in
the office where I was a general prosecutor...

Knowing all the players, all the personalities, and the politics, a
solution just happened to occur, and the rest fell into place. I am
very glad for both sides that a good result could be obtained.

I was totally prepared to go to trial and win, but I had doubts as to
whether that was the best course in the end.

As you know, in these matters, most of what is done is a matter of
prosecutorial discretion.
