Re: OT - Computer question for computer guru here

Hi ya Chuck!

I did not see the answer posted, so I'll tell you what is wrong. Everyone
sitting down? <eg>

You need to change the batteries on your cordless keyboard. This happens to me
all the time--or something could be blocking the signal from the puter to the
cordless device.

I have posted this in 24hoursupport.helpdesk and so far have not
gotten an answer. Maybe someone here will know what I need to do.
So, here it is:

Now I have discovered the computer will not boot into Safe Mode by
tapping or holding the f8 key.

I am using a wireless keyboard and mouse, but they have always worked
fine before and the mouse still moves the cursor and appears to try to
execute the program that I highlight. The keyboard is a fairly new one
and when I pushed on the My Music key right after booting it opened
the folder just fine. I clicked on one of the folders in it and told
it to play in Media Player. It worked just fine. Then I double clicked
on Quick Time Player. The hour glass appeared on the screen and never
went away. I tried double clicking on Norton AntiVirus with the same
result.

Help! I am lost and can't find my way out.

We use our old desktop p.c. in our bedroom to play mp3 files and
stream radio stations.

Last week I downloaded an aquarium screen saver and installed it.

That was when the problems began. The computer started acting up by
not responding to the mouse or the keyboard much of the time.
Consequently, I uninstalled the screen saver software I had
downloaded.

Now the computer boots up in what appears to be a completely normal
mode. All of my icons are displayed on the desktop. However, as soon
as I move the cursor to one and double click on it the icon will look
as they always have when booting to the software. From there on
nothing happens. Nothing works.

Ctrl/Alt/Del does nothing.
Moving the cursor over "start" and clicking it does nothing.
In fact I can move the cursor anyplace I want on the desktop and it
will not activate anything.
Right clicking on the mouse gets no response.

I have to either push the reset button on the box or the on/off
button. I am pretty sure I need to boot up in Safe Mode, but do not
know what I need to do once I have done that.

When booting up it even runs Weatherbug via my wireless network card.
Once it stops responding it does not get any updates on temperature,
etc. from Weatherbug.

Thank you friends for all your help.
