Ok, what other organizations are there that provide info like this?
Tracy,
I do want to applaud you for your efforts to get handle on your own
situation based on doing the kind of research you are doing and
following up with every bit of thread that may possibly give you a
better grasp of this complex issue.
To begin with here is a web site that seems to suggest that any number
above FBG of 87 mg/dL or 4.77 mmol per liter is red flag for other wise
healthy person.
http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/abstract/353/14/1454.
In a way you are lucky to have such red flags staring at you. I wish I
was as smart as you are back in 1997 my FBG numbers came out to 136
mg/dL and Dr said I am border line diabetes and should start taking my
exercise seriously. The whole discussion on diabetes lasted less than 5
min I was give a leaflet on diet and exercise. The diet did want me on
not eating carbs. Being a vegetarian I pretty much did not see how I
could eat any thing at all! The seriousness of exercise also did not
much dawn on me as I was too busy working 16-18 hrs a day in a startup.
Well fast forward 2005 there is no getting around accepting membership
to T2DM.
Point I am giving you this context is that I see a strong possibility
that you are at a point where you can reverse the course if you treat
the situation as if you have a full blown diabetes. And I am not
talking about medication. That is where the professional medical advice
comes in. But for prudent diet that is diabetes friendly (and I don't
know without a meter how you can be 100% sure) and a serious exercise
regiment would give you a best chance to either halt the progression or
reverse it if you are lucky! I see no down size in treating one self as
diabetic (without any medication of course). You will most likely loose
weight, eat far better diet and will be fitter person! And with luck
will stay that way for rest of your life! At least that is what we all
would like you to get out of this rather stretched out thread of
conversation.
Take care,
Anil
