Have you ever emailed or received email from anyone in here?
I am not saying this is the case for you but a typical
scenario is this: your email address is on the computer of
someone in her that you may have conversed with. That person
sends a joke or whatever to a lot of people at once
(including you) and doesn't use the BCC option. Someone in
that group may have inadvertantly opened an email that has a
virus attached (many people still do that). If perchance
that person accidentally hits "reply to all" instead of
"reply" to an email that hasn't used the BCC function then a
whole swag of email addresses go to their address book.

A typical email virus (which the hypothetical person has
opened) can start sending out email to everyone in that
person's address book unbeknownst to them. You receive the
email, recognise some of the names the email has also gone
to but the sender that shows isn't the sender. In fact other
people might get one of these emails that has you down as
the sender and you get a rush of emails telling you you are
sending infected emails. There is not much you can do to
avoid it but you can remind people who don't use BCC to do
so. The other likely thing is that your email address has
been harvested from here and the harvester has a virus with
same results as the above scenario.

I've communicated with a few people from this group, but those email addresses weren't among the people who were supposedly sending me mail. For all I know someone has set up a virus to propagate through a particular newsgroup using familiar addresses in the hope the virus will be opened.

I guess it's time to munge my email address, just in case.
